Press Gehan Homes Donates Towards Rebuilding After Hurricane Florence

In the wake of Hurricane Florence, Gehan Homes has donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross, to assist with disaster relief.

Water levels in Carolina Rivers are decreasing, but record flooding could continue for weeks. Preliminary information suggests that between 8,000 and 10,000 homes may have suffered major damage or were destroyed. More than 1,600 people are currently staying in Red Cross and community shelters across the Carolinas.

“When we spoke to the Red Cross and learned that thousands of houses were severely damaged and many are still uninhabitable, we knew we wanted to step up and help families across the Carolinas get back into their homes,” said John Winniford, Chief Executive Officer, Gehan Homes. “Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this storm as well as with the Red Cross volunteers, who are doing a tremendous job assisting those in need.”

Gehan Homes, which builds in communities across Arizona and Texas, knows firsthand the devastating effects of natural disasters. The company made a $50,000 donation to the Red Cross one year ago, to assist in the recovery from Hurricane Harvey, which impacted the Houston area. The builder repaired damaged homes of their employees and spent several weeks volunteering in Houston-area communities doing home repairs and clean up.

Additional donations to assist with recovery efforts can be made on the Gehan Homes Red Cross microsite. The organization will continue to actively assist, while providing first response and support for other ongoing disasters.

“Similar to Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Hurricane Florence has been another devastating event, and the American Red Cross is front and center in the recovery,” said American Red Cross North Texas CEO Keith Rhodes. “But our efforts rely on the support of our donors, and Gehan Homes – one of our corporate partners right here in North Texas – has stepped up in a big way, and we could not be more grateful. This gift will go a long way in ensuring that the Red Cross can continue to bring relief, recovery and hope to those who need it in the aftermath of Florence.”
