Gehan Homes, the 13th largest private builder and the 29th largest builder in the US, has made a $50,000 donation to the American Red Cross in the wake of Hurricane Ian and as the threat of home fires increase.
Hurricane Ian brought over 20 inches of rain and up to 150-mph winds to Florida, causing billions of dollars in damaging and taking over 100 lives. The Red Cross sent volunteers to help those who are displaced after the hurricane destroyed their homes.
In the North Texas area, Red Cross collects life-saving blood donations as well as provides disaster support, health and safety training, Service to the Armed Forces and International Services. The Home Fire Campaign helps save lives by installing free smoke alarms in homes that don't have them, and by educating people about home fire safety. As temperatures drop, volunteers are installing free smoke alarms across the region. This is critical, as 45% of home fires happen during the Fall months. By installing these smoke alarms, they hope to prevent fires and save lives.
In the past fiscal year, as a Silver Ready 365 Partner, Gehan Homes has helped the Red Cross North Texas Region:
- Respond to over 2,200 disasters, the majority of which were fires
- Assist nearly 9,000 individuals recover from disaster
- Enroll nearly 40,000 people in lifesaving First Aid and CPR classes
Gehan Homes has proudly partnered with the Red Cross since 2017.
